Impact Door Installation
Doors are the hardest openings in a South Florida home to get right. They are large, they move, and they sit at grade where wind-driven rain collects. A sliding glass door facing a patio is usually the single most vulnerable opening in the house, which is why it is so often the one that fails first in a storm.
The threshold detail decides whether a door leaks. Water finds the sill transition long before it finds the glass, so the pan, the end dams, and the way the finished floor meets the track matter more than the door panel itself. Thresholds should be set with that in mind and flashed before the unit goes in, not after.
Hardware is the other half of the job. Multipoint locks, rollers sized to panel weight, and pivot sets all have to be adjusted after installation and again once the building settles. A door that swings beautifully on install day and drags six months later was almost always adjusted once and never revisited.

Common Questions
Can a sliding glass door really be impact-rated?
Yes, and it needs to be. Large sliding doors carry more area and more load than any window in the house, so an approved system there matters more than anywhere else.
Do impact doors look different from standard doors?
The glass is slightly thicker and frames are a little heavier, but from a few feet away most people cannot tell. Finish and profile options cover the same range as non-impact products.
How wide can a folding door opening be?
It depends on panel count, the structural header above the opening, and the approved configuration for your wind zone. The system has to be sized against the actual header condition before it can be quoted.
